Warm Pears in a Creamy Sauce

  • 4 fresh pears, chopped
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
  • 1/2 cup Grape-Nuts Cereal


  1. PLACE pears in medium microwaveable bowl. Add apple juice and 2 Tbsp. of the brown sugar; mix lightly.
  2. MICROWAVE on HIGH 2 min.; stir gently. Microwave an additional 1 to 2 min. or until pears are tender. Stir in sour cream. Spoon evenly into four small serving bowls.
  3. MIX remaining 2 Tbsp. brown sugar and cereal; sprinkle evenly over desserts. Serve warm.

Tips and Suggestions

Substitute: Prepare as directed, using Trail Mix Crunch Raisins & Almonds Cereal.

Make Ahead: Microwave pears, juice and sugar as directed; cool. Cover and store in tightly covered container in refrigerator up to 3 days. When ready to serve, reheat in microwave. Stir in sour cream and continue as directed. Nutrition Bonus: A great use for fresh pears, this microwaved dessert couldn't be easier! In addition to being low in fat, it's low in both cholesterol and sodium. And the cereal provides a good source of iron.
